November Meeting – Wednesday 2nd

We are not having a regular meeting at DoES this month. Instead we will have a LivLUG outing to Ignite.

Some members like to attend both, and there is a clash of dates this month. In addition, they have lots of talks planned, which is exactly lots more than us

Ignite is held in the upstairs room at Leaf on Bold Street, over the road from our old meeting venue at LSC. Doors open at 6 with the first talk scheduled for 7. It gets pretty busy to aim to be there for 6:30 if possible. Entry is free but you can book tickets at the Ignite web site.

Hope to see as many of you as possible there.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday October 5th.

There will be a talk from Neil Bothwick on creating a system rescue USB stick that is able to boot from a choice of Live CD ISO images stored on the stick.

We will meet at DoES Liverpool at around 7pm with the talk starting at approximately 7:30. The DoES web site contains full directions to get there. Afterwards, we will move on to a local hostelry, which is usually either The Hub on Hanover Street or The Shipping Forecast on Slater Street, for drinks and further discussions.

All are welcome, new faces and old, old hacks and newbies, we are open to everyone.

Meeting: Wednesday 6th July

Our next meeting will be this coming Wednesday, July 6th

The talk we didn’t have last month will be happening this time. It will be given by Sebastian Arcus and is a follow up to his recent talk on DNS, although it is not necessary to have attended that talk to make sense of this one. This is Seb’s description:

*A Storm In A Teacup – The Unexpected Perils of Choosing an Internal Domain Name*

This will be a mini-presentation slash chat on the in and outs, risks, headaches and options when it comes to choosing a domain name for the internal network. What has changed from the good old days, and more importantly, what should have changed and hasn’t.

We will meet at DoES Liverpool http://doesliverpool.com/ at around 7pm. The DoES web site contains full directions to get there. You will need to sign in at the building’s reception then take the lift to the fourth floor for DoES. Afterwards, we will move on to a local hostelry, which is usually the Shipping Forecast on Slater Street, for drinks and further discussions.

LivLUG is open to all, new faces and old, old hacks and newbies. There is no expected level of technical expertise or familiarity with Linux, whether you are a seasoned sysadmin, a kernel hacker or have just tried Linux for the first time, you will be welcome.

Next Meeting: Wednesday 6th April @7pm

Our next meeting will be tomorrow, or maybe today by the time you read this somewhat belated email, on Wednesday April 6th.

We have no talk planned for this month so this will be a more social meeting, although I could be talked into giving n ad-hoc demonstration of tmux (think of it as screen on steroids) one of my recent favourite programs.

Either way, we will meet at DoES Liverpool at around 7pm for a discussion about tmux or whatever comes to mind, or a troubleshooting session if anyone has any issues they want to discuss – preferably Linux related šŸ˜‰

Afterwards, we will move on to a local hostelry, which is usually the Shipping Forecast on Slater Street, for drinks and further discussions. The DoES web site contains full directions to get there. You will need to sign in at the building’s reception then take the lift to the fourth floor for DoES.

All are welcome, new faces and old, old hacks and newbies, we are open to everyone.

Feel free to forward this message anywhere you feel is relevant.

LivLUG Meeting: Wednesday 3rd February @ 7pm

It’s just under a week until our next meeting. This time Sebastian Arcus will be giving a talk on DNS. If you thought DNS began and ended with sending a domain name and getting back an IP address, you were wrong, there is so much more. How much more, come along next Wednesday to find out.

We will meet at DoES Liverpool at around 7pm with the talk starting at about 7:30. Afterwards, we will move on to a local hostelry, probably the Shipping Forecast on Slater Street, for drinks and further discussions. The DoES web site contains full directions to get there. You will need to sign in at the building’s reception then take the lift to the fourth floor for DoES.

All are welcome, new faces and old, old hacks and newbies, we are open to everyone.

LivLUG September 2015 Meeting – Weds Sept 2nd @ 7pm

LOCATION: DoES Liverpool, Hanover St.
DATE: Weds Sept 2nd @ 7pm

Hello one and all,

A picture of a field mouse

Not this kind of mouse!!

The September gathering of the Liverpool Linux User Group is almost upon us. This month we’ll be treated to a discussion on mice. No not the furry type, the pointing devices that pretty everyone who has ever used a computer will have encountered. Our very own Andrew Bates will follow on from his successful talk about mechanical keyboards a few months ago. It’s a veritableĀ smorgasbord of HCI tools and information.

We have moved to DoES Liverpool on a permanent basis thanks to their kind hospitality. Directions to DoES can be found here – http://doesliverpool.com/location/

We meet at 7pm and the talk should start around 7:30pm. Afterwards we’ll head to a local watering hole to chat more and socialise. Often it’s The Shipping Forecast on Slater St because seats are plentiful and food is also available.

Everyone is welcome, meetings are free and there is no level of technical skill or experience required. It’s an informal and friendly group so just come along and say hello. We’d be glad to see you.

LivLUG Meeting – Weds Aug 5th 2015 @ 7pm

LOCATION: DoES Liverpool, Hanover St.
DATE: Weds Aug 5th @ 7pm

Hello folks,

It’s almost time for another Liverpool Linux User Group meeting. This month we’ll have a talk about Plex Media Server from our very own Will Noakes. Ok, ok, I know what you’re thinking “but Plex isn’t Open Source”. You’re right, it isn’t but it is packaged for all major Linux distributions and I myself run a Plex server on Ubuntu. That puts it firmly in the Linux arena. If anyone has some XBMC/Kodi knowledge for comparison that would also be welcomed.

We have moved to DoES Liverpool on a permanent basis now thanks to their kind hospitality. Directions to DoES can be found here – http://doesliverpool.com/location/

We meet at 7pm and the talk should start around 7:30pm. Afterwards we’ll head to a local watering hole to chat more and socialise.
